Chapter Eighteen

Reasons of Liability

When we get home, I hop in the shower to warm the chilly day out of my bones.

While air-drying, I call Abigail and fill her in on the issue at Daniel Lovell’s house. “I think it’s the spirit of someone who was murdered on the property. The kids are both terrified. I’m thinking it would be much better not to take chances. How do you feel about having everyone involved to help get rid of this thing?”

“Absolutely,” says Abigail. “Do you have any information who they were? And when would you like to perform the banishment?”

“Not yet, and the sooner the better. There’s a chance the remains are still on the property, so we should at least deal with that, first. Much more difficult to banish a spirit away from its remains. I’m going to requisition a GPR crew to check the spot. If they find remains down there, we’ll need to get the body out before we attempt to purge the entity.”

“Quite true. Do try and find out the name of the person as that will help strengthen the invocation.”

I bite my lip. She knows I know that, but she likes sounding like a teacher so I never protest when she talks like I’m a baby witch. Maybe she’s thinking I forgot since I didn’t mention not having a name? I adore her either way. “Right. I’ll try to find out if I can.”

“All right. I’ll let the others know to prepare. Be safe, Maddy.”

“You too. Blessed be.”

After we hang up, I head downstairs where Caius is doing an impression of Venus on the couch… if she were a man. I swear he’s part Satyr. Allergic to clothing. Then again, I’m one to talk at the moment. We cuddle together, sharing a blanket and basking in each other’s warmth while sorta-watching a movie. Something about grey wolves chasing a guy in the woods. Not really paying too much attention to the screen…
